Seeking comments to protect monarchs under ESA

Over the past two decades, monarch numbers in North America have declined, prompting the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to join Tribes, state agencies, other federal agencies and non-government groups to identify threats to the monarch and take steps to conserve monarchs. The monarch is not federally protected now.  The USFWS has announced a proposed rule to list the monarch butterfly as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act. The Service is seeking public input on this proposal. Public comments will be accepted on the proposal until March 12, 2025. The Service will then evaluate the comments and determine whether to list the monarch butterfly as threatened.  Read more here . . .
